Waymo - First Ride Review

Today was a wild one — I finally took my first ride in a Waymo in Scottsdale Arizona and let me tell you it felt like the future had arrived 🌵✨

I’ve seen the white Jaguar SUVs with spinning sensors cruising around town but I’d never actually been inside one until now. Signing up was super easy through the Waymo app. Once I got approved I could call a car just like an Uber — but with no driver. That part still blows my mind.

I ordered the ride from Old Town to Kierland Commons just to get a feel for how it handles city driving and traffic. The car pulled up right on time. I walked up to the vehicle and it unlocked automatically. There was a screen inside that greeted me by name and showed the route.

As the ride began I kept expecting a voice from the front seat to say something but nope — completely empty up front. The steering wheel turned on its own and the car drove so smoothly it honestly felt safer than some human drivers I’ve had 🫣

Every turn and lane change was precise. It stopped perfectly at lights and even handled some tricky left turns with ease. I could see other people on the road doing double takes when they realized nobody was driving 😆

Inside the car it was super clean and comfortable. There were buttons to pull over if you ever needed to stop and a help button that connects you with live support. I didn’t need it but it was nice to know it was there.

After about 20 minutes we pulled up to my destination and the car politely told me the ride was complete. The doors unlocked and I hopped out — already thinking about when I’d ride again.

It’s honestly surreal how normal it felt. No awkward small talk no worrying if your driver is going the long way — just smooth quiet tech doing its thing. And yeah it’s a little creepy at first but once you’re in motion it just feels… right.

Scottsdale really is on the cutting edge with this and I’m glad I got to experience it. If you’re in the area and curious — do it. Future transportation is here and it rides like a dream 🛻💨
